You've Got The Hunger

So since I had Ed Westwick fever I skipped over chatting about Heroes this week, but frankly it was such an insane episode I think we need to go back and examine. I had serious concerns about this episode because last week's preview showed a tamed Sylar cooking breakfast and cheerily greeting Peter and frankly I can't support a nonpsychotic Sylar. I was greeeatly pleased to see that the teaser was misleading and the whole episode is fucking awesome. This season has been doing a great job of manipulating my views of characters (a la LOST) so I think it's time to take a minute to discuss.

Sylar, for starters. Okay I was greatly pleased to see that Gabriel Gray was not some magical transformation he had gone through from being partnered with HRG but rather Future Gabriel who says he controls his maniacal desire to kill everyone in sight because of his son, who is conveniently named Noah (who slept with him!?!?) - AND he has Mr. Muggles!!!

So clearly HRG and Mama Bennet are both dead and Sylar has taken over the Bennet house. Also, a big tx to Heroes for showing us what exactly Sylar's power is (intuitive ability) and that it is able to be absorbed- I don't know why I felt like it was unabsorbable but I guess it's because they've never really explained what exactly it is that Sylar does besides kill people and then somehow have their ability afterwards.

Peter is now turning into the Jack of Heroes in my opinion. Future Peter went into the past and fucked everything up. Then he brings Peter into the future and tells him to find Sylar and promptly is killed by Future Claire (who has turned into a raging brunette bitch bent on killing both of him), sending Peter on a quest to Costa Verde, absorbing Sylar's power, killing Sylar's son and therefore 200,000 other people (damn that radioactive exploding power), fucking the future up even more, then going and murdering his own brother because he has The Hunger and because he can't stop fucking everything up.

Mohinder.. time to die, seriously. He's a greedy naive fool who was jealous of the people with abilities. He gave Sylar his powers back even after he's murdered countless people, including his father, and tried to blow up New York City. Then he injected himself with a formula he conconcted cause he thinks he's smart and wanted to give himself a power, but now he's turning into something like the Fly. Die die die die. I'm so over this fool.

I don't exactly know how I feel about people in the future being able to give themselves powers, and I don't know how I feel about some of our current characters having been given their power (Nathan Petrelli for example). It seems to just generally cheapen the fact that therer are people with amazing abilities, and the whole "these people are the evolution of humanity" theme. Only time shall tell I guess.

The Return of H.R.G.

Yes! Tonight! Finally, after spending these past few months watching Volumes One and Two of Heroes (barely- we just finished the volume two finale last night) we get to start Volume Three- Villains tonight!!! My heart is going to explode I seriously can't even wait. I spoiled myself a little by reading the story that TV Guide wrote about the new season and reading some really dirty spoilers which has really just excited me more than anything. Not to mention that its three hours long- a one hour retrospective (maybe? I'm kind of making this up) followed by a two hour season premiere chock full of cheerleaders, Milo Ventimiglia, electricity, brain thievery, time travel, adorable accents and the Man With the Horn Rimmed Glasses. If you've never watched heroes you seriously should start. Even if you start tonight.

When May I Call On You?

My favorite TV show of all time is Six Feet Under, so I was really psyched to hear that Alan Ball had created a new series about vampires (HOT). It's actually in reality even hotter than I expected. The storyline is perf, the sexual tension between Anna Paquin and Steven Moyer is through the roof and it is just really an ultra sexy show. I can't wait to watch every second of this and now I really want to make out with a vampire.

Volume One

In the downtime of waiting for our favorite shows to come back on TV my friends and I started watching Heroes at my request (they'd already seen both seasons but I insisted we should rewatch). Television and I have a strange relationship. If I don't watch something when it airs, and then people tell me that it's really really good, I all of a sudden NEVER want to watch that show. I was that way with LOST too and look how that turned out. Anyway more importantly I have opened my heart to Heroes and need to watch both seasons before September when Volume Three premieres.

Last night we finished Volume One. Heroes is very similar to LOST in its storyline sense where all the characters, though introduced separately and having no knowledge of it, are actually all interconnected to each other and in that same way makes it difficult to determine who is "good" and who is "bad". Heroes, however, actually does a much better job of blurring that line. The characters are all incredibly likable. Their plights are something I could totally buy into from every angle. Just when you think you really hate someone, or when you've finally figured out that they're a villain, they show you a side of that character that completely alters your perception of them. The only character I really hated was Sylar, and they even managed to show a side of him that (almost) made me compassionate.

Overall a really great story line. Totes excited to start Volume Two!

Where Are They Now?

One of the things that bothers me about Project Runway is that pretty much after the show is over you never hear anything about the winners actually accomplishing anything. Christian gets a little bit more press because of his sassy attitude and since Posh loves him, but even successful contestants you don't hear much about. Jeffrey sells his clothes at major LA boutiques, Austin is a creative director for a bridal line and one time I ran into that hunky Spartan Kevin in the streets after work. But the real question is, what ever happened to Jay McCarroll?

Today I was shopping on Fred Flare when I found this.


It's the Jay McCarroll bowling bag. I don't know about this. It's $60 and it kind of looks like crap. Jay is by far my favorite PR winner and I really felt like he had the ability to take his talent far. His creations were all beautiful, quirky and totally wearable. This bag- not so much.

I tried to see if the site was selling any other of his designs but it seems like just a fluke being the only McCarroll item sold there. Nobody else seems to carry any of this stuff either. I looked to see if he had any kind of site with his designs and found out something interesting - Jay turned down the $100,000 prize that Project Runway offers because it meant 10% of his brand would be forever owned by the Weinstein Company. That would explain why he's done nothing of significance selling shit looking bags on Fred Flare I guess.

Answers?

Tonight is both a very exciting and very sad night for us because it is the two-hour second half of the LOST season 4 finale. Two hours of straight Lost is amazing, not to mention the fact that we are supposed to get some serious answers this time. Supposedly. However, this means many many months of no Lost, which means I'm going to spend a ton of money on the DVDs and watch them over and over for no reason until I go to the mental hospital per Hugo Reyes. Some important things that we have been told we will find out tonight:

1. WHO IS IN THE GODDAMN COFFIN

2. WHY IS KATE RAISING AARON
3. WHY ARE THEY LYING ABOUT THE CRASH
4. WHAT IS THE FROZEN DONKEY WHEEL - obvi we will find this out since it refers to the last scene.

If I do not find out the answers to all of these things and more, I am going to be very very disappointed yet still definitely continue to watch the show and talk about how cool and amazing it is. Even so. Stop playing games with my heart!

From what I can read, they are talking about a man, the body was found in a downtown loft shortly after 4am, and he was either found or originally from New York. I also see the word "loud" but not sure what it's referring to. Any thoughts on what else is written there or who it might be? Discuss.

Not a Botanical Research Unit

It's Losturday, so hurry up and get orientated with the DHARMA Station 6 aka the Orchid. Hopefully this station will get some serious play in tonight's episode, since it seems Keamy is headed there to stop Ben from leaving the island (assuming the Orchid is a time-travel station). Supposedly we also get to see our O6 getting off The Island and maybe the beginnings of the sexual John Locke learning to move it. It's only part one of the finale tonight so who knows what kind of answers we'll really be getting.

The second half of LOST season four begins Thursday. Here's a brief recap of the past few seasons just in case you've fallen behind.

Pack Your Knives and Go

One of the many perks of my job is that I get to eat lunch with different celebrities, musicians and tv personalities. Previous contenders include Bret Michaels, Eva Mendes, Mary J. Blige and Natasha Bedingfield (snore). Today I had the pleasure of enjoying a meal with Top Chef's host and hostess, Tom Colicchio

and Padma Lakshmi.


I have to say that I have a big ol' crush on Chef Colicchio. He's a nice, mild-mannered guy with a shaved head (yum). He was pleasant and professional and adorable. Padma, not so much. She has a great body but she seems prettier on the show, not to mention that she is in desperate need of a stylist. She dominated most of the conversation and seemed more or less like a bitch. I will give her one thing though -girl can eat. I've never seen someone actually come to one of our lunches and do more than just push some salad around on a plate. Padma had two helpings of food and a cookie. Good for her.

Season 4: Chicago is promising to be the best season yet according to these two, with the contestants being overall the most talented so far. Noteworthy: no contestants were allowed to leave Chicago until the end of the competition because bloggers and newspapers were following them so closely that sending home the eliminated players would have spoiled the whole show before it even aired. They are not allowed cell phones, newspapers, television, magazines, books (except 2 non-food related books they are allowed to bring from home), music or any connection to the outside world at all. No wonder there's so much dramz.

Randy Jackson Strikes Again

Normally I hate reality competition tv bullshit. However, accidentally I started watching Randy Jackson's MTV show "America's Best Dance Crew". For lack of a better word I'm obsessed. Maybe it's just because I have literally no dancing abilities and these people are amazing, or maybe its because I hate the three judges SO MUCH (see above photo) but the only thing that makes it okay for Lost to be over is that ABDC is on right afterwards.
